History
Shortly after returning from WWII, cousins Chris Sheridan and Angelo Punaro founded the Sheridan-Punaro Construction Company.
The first project for the Sheridan-Punaro Construction Company–a building for Billy Cassidy–was completed in January. The Cassidy family is still a client today!
The first project for Mount de Sales Academy was completed in June. We have since completed more than 100 projects for the school.
We completed the first project for Armstrong World Industries in July. Our relationship with them continued until 1986 and included 588 projects.
Our firm completed construction of Cherokee Brick and Tile’s Administrative Office building. We continue to enjoy a working relationship with Cherokee Brick with them being one of our major suppliers.
We completed the Ocmulgee National Monument Museum.
We completed our first project for St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
We completed our first project with Robins Air Force Base in Warner Robins, Georgia, and continued that relationship for many years completing 54 jobs for RAFB.
Our firm completed the first of 18 projects with L.E. Schwartz & Son, Inc. in July. In addition to being a long-term client, L.E. Schwartz is one of our trusted trade contractors.
We completed the first project for the City of Macon in November. Our relationship with the City continues today.
On March 7, the company hired Mr. Carroll Carter as an estimator and project manager. He later became President and Chairman of the Board.
In the 1990’s, Mr. Carter was president of the Associated General Contractors of Georgia and recipient of their highest honor–the SIR Award.
We completed our first medical office building — a project for Dr. Devereaux Jarrett.
We completed the first of 56 projects for Timberlake Grocery, a relationship that lasted until 1999 when the business was sold.
We completed the first of 22 projects for the First Presbyterian Church in Macon.
Sheridan Construction joined the Associated General Contractors of America in 1957.
Mr. Carroll Carter became Vice President of the company.
Sheridan built Mount de Sales Academy’s Gymnasium & Cafeteria known as McAuley Hall.
Completed Dr. Cassidy’s dentist office building. Dr. Cassidy is still a client today.
Completed the 1st project for Jackson Automotive Group. The Oldsmobile – Sales & Service Facility. The Jackson’s are still a client today.
Sheridan was the low bidder for the Macon Coliseum whose construction featured a 360-foot span concrete arched roof. Sheridan subsequently built every job for the Macon Coliseum Authority completing the last one in 1994 in a joint venture with Batson-Cook Company.
The current Sheridan Construction office was built.
First completed project for Mid Georgia Sales, who is still a client today.
Chris Sheridan Jr. P.E. joined the company as an estimator and project manager.
Mr. Carroll Carter became President and Chris R. Sheridan, Jr. became Vice President of the company.
Ronny Williams joined the company and began to manage the complete renovation of the Hilton Hotel for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company. We were the low bidder on the exterior renovation. The owner was so pleased with Mr. Williams’ work that they negotiated the larger interior renovation as a change order to the original contract.
Chris R. Sheridan, Sr. retired after 43 years of hard work and devotion.
Chris R. Sheridan, Jr. was named President and Ronny Williams was named Vice President.
Chris R. Sheridan, Jr. was privileged with carrying the Olympic torch in the 1996 Olympic games held in Atlanta, Georgia.
Received our first AGC Build Georgia Award. We received 1st place for the Ironwoods Family Golf Center project.
Received the Outstanding Achievement Award from CompTrust AGC.
Sheridan was awarded the first ever construction management at risk project for the Board of Regents, University System of Georgia.
Received the 1st place AGC Build Georgia Award for St. Peter Claver Catholic School.
Received the 1st place AGC Build Georgia Award for the 100th Anniversary Renovation of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.
Sheridan reorganized to be 50% owned by the employees via the ESOP.
Received the 1st place AGC Build Georgia Award for Renovation & Addition to the Security Bank Walnut Street.
Received the 1st place AGC Build Georgia Award for Georgia Military College Barracks.
Sheridan Construction celebrated 60 years in business by building a house for the Macon Area Habitat for Humanity. The house was built on Roy Avenue in Lynmore Estates in Macon, Georgia.
Sheridan Construction was honored to receive a First Place AGC Build Georgia Award for construction of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Sheridan Construction received its first Boeing Performance Excellence Award.
The Boeing Performance Excellence Award is one of Boeing’s official programs designed to recognize suppliers who achieve the high performance standards necessary to meet customer expectations and remain competitive in the global economy. Sheridan Construction earned this recognition by always performing on time and exceeding Boeing’s needs while performing Task Order contract work.
Sheridan Construction was honored to receive a First Place AGC Build Georgia Award for construction of the new Middle Georgia State University Professional Sciences Center.
Chris R. Sheridan, Jr. received the Citizen of the Year award from the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce.
Sheridan Construction received its second Boeing Performance Excellence Award for performing on time and exceeding Boeing’s needs while performing Task Order contract work.
Sheridan Construction was honored to receive a First Place AGC Build Georgia Award for construction of the new Northwoods Academy Early Childhood Education Center.
Sheridan Construction received its third Boeing Performance Excellence Award for performing on time and exceeding Boeing’s needs while performing Task Order contract work.
Sheridan Construction was honored to receive First Place AGC Build Georgia Awards for the Renovation of the Bibb County Courthouse and the Renovation of the Obstetrics Wing at Coliseum Medical Center.
Sheridan Construction was honored to receive a First Place AGC Build Georgia Award for the Renovation of the Academy of Medicine at Georgia Tech.
Sheridan Construction received its fourth Boeing Performance Excellence Award for performing on time and exceeding Boeing’s needs while performing Task Order contract work.

Sheridan Construction is one of two companies in Georgia that has two recipients of this award.
Christy Kovac was named President of Sheridan Construction, making her the first woman president of a construction company in the Macon area.

2020 marks the beginning of a new era at Sheridan Construction as Chris R. Sheridan. Jr., retires to devote his full attention to civic and philanthropic endeavors. This transition marks the first time in company history a Sheridan family member has not played a role in Sheridan Construction — now a fully employee-owned and operated company.
